Run Fast / Run Slow - a recap on our past week

Welcome back, a little late but it’s getting done. Seems like the more I write the more I procrastinate about it. This week’s post is a recap of our past week. The turn out, energy and overall feeling is still buzzing. We started with our second take at Global Running Day followed by our 10th LSD run with Satisfy.

Read along to get some insights on both and find out what made each event so special and what we have to look forward to. I will refer to Global Running Day as GRD and LSD is short for Long Slow Distance.

We had an incredible event for GRD last year and felt like there was no real need to change the format for this one. The aim was a 5km PB ( personal best ) this is achieved with pacers for every group. A big shout out to the team at ORP Indonesia who supported us with shoes, giveaways and coconuts.  Thanks to all our pacers, Johnny and Mika from Continuum, Sinead from Rise&Run alongside Nick and Jack from Shuffle&Strides for believing in us and taking part in the event.  While our run club is more social and easy paced it was so amazing to see hard efforts, support and celebrations from the whole community.

Seeing the diversity of body types, nationalities and different levels of runners come together towards a common goal was really special. It made me really proud of what we are doing. I love that the feeling and understanding of the effort required to go a little faster and beyond our self inflicted limits is shared on every level. It’s a beautiful equalizer. The finish line smiles, struggles and gasps for air are the proof. We had over 200 people show up which in itself is a milestone and it’s wild to think this will continue to grow.

We have had the opportunity to be a host for Paris based running brand Satisfy for the past year. Getting to 10 runs is something to celebrate. The lead up to this had enough momentum that we would have had another 200 people showing up had it not rained in the morning. Mother Nature doesnt give a shit about that so she rained and rained up until 6 am. We still had over 50 people show up and that doubled as lots of people showed up after the rain to get some miles in.

We went to mark out the track the night before. This means putting shredded paper every 50m or so and marking turns with chalk. I have a basic idea of where I want to go but putting it all together and being mindful of distance and making it a loop is always a challenge. In tradition of adventure we got to explore the lesser known tracks of Munggu. It’s wild that after ten runs we can still find such hidden places and are never more then 10 km from the cafe. Our friend and super talented photographer Marc was able to document the fun in his unique style. It was cool to see the differences between his photos and Iman’s from the GRD. Both so good in their own ways.

I love the contrast of both events. GRD on road and was speed focused and LSD which was primarily dirt tracks and intended to be slow. It gave us an opportunity to celebrate and challenge the idea of what running is or can be. It makes me so happy to see people outside their comfort zones, going through the motions together and then celebrating their wins with each other afterwards over a coffee and coconut. Thanks for coming out, supporting us and cant wait to keep pushing out ideas and growing together.

Hope to catch you for a coffee and run soon
